Anne Rice Praises Stephenie Meyer's Work

Happy "Eclipse" Friday, my Twi-Hearts!

I'm counting down the hours to get my hands on my "special" edition, from Target, of our "Eclipse"! As I was passing the time indulging in Twilight News, I came across this bit of info. that I thought I'd share with you all.

I'm sure we all heard about the supposed feud between Anne Rice, the queen of vampire lit, and our own Stephenie Meyer. Well, yes, Anne Rice recently did share some rather harsh criticism of the Twilight Series. However, Anne Rice is on a mission to clarify her earlier statements and even praised Steph Meyer for her work. So how did this rumor come to be?

Well, a couple of weeks ago in an interview with "New Jersey-Star Ledger" Anne Rice was quoted as saying, "Twilight is based on a really silly premise: that immortals would go to high school...It’s a failure of imagination, but at the same time, that silly premise has provided Stephenie Meyer with huge success. It’s almost like a stroke of genius to put vampires in high school. They just graduate over and over again."

She also added, “The idea that if you are immortal you would go to high school instead of Katmandu or Paris or Venice, it’s the vampire dumbed down for kids." At the time it sounded like she thought very little of the books and of the author for the concept, right?

But as the world turns, things change. And now Anne Rice is saying something very different. During a more recent interview with students at Saint Gertrude High School in Richmond, Va., she now praised Stephenie Meyer for her creativity.

“I think Stephenie Meyer is a wonderful writer, and she’s made millions of people very, very happy,” Anne Rice shared. “I thought it was kind of enchanting…I certainly have respect for it.” Even though Anne says she admires the Twilight author, she's still not a fan of the series personally.

And so, all's well that ends well. I'm thrilled that Anne Rice cleared out the rumors. Clearly, there is no feud between her and Steph Meyer. She remains, in her own right, the Queen of Vampire Lit.. Plus, I think many people, and celebrities alike, are realizing that making fun of the Twilight franchise can have a negative affect on their popularity. If so, I think there is an important lesson to be learned…don’t hate on our franchise! We Twihards stick together and are a solid bunch.

  1. The only reason she changed her tune was to look "good" and hope more people would read her books. She doesnt want the millions of readers that read both, to be like Ugh what a B***H Just like a politician, tell ya what they think you want to hear
