Rob's Vanity Fair Interview: Good or Disappointing?

First of all let's talk about the picture...I never thought there would come a day when I would find a picture of Robert Pattinson that did not make me drool. What in the world kind of cover is this? Its like a cross between Crocodile Hunter meets man from the Mayflower. All props aside, the man is completely gorgeous and somehow manages to even make that cover look better.

Looks are lovely, but a man's word is worth so much more and for once I will say I was stuck between feeling incredibly sorry for him and extremely disappointed at the same time. We all know what these actors go through. Its hard. Their lives aren't really theirs to have. Everyone watches every move they make and just waits for them to screw up or do something news worthy and then when they can't get that, they just make up incredible rumors to sell stories. But at the end of the day, they chose this profession and this is just a part of it.

Rob makes it no secret in his latest interview with Vanity fair that the Twi-world is just a franchise he has to please and he is more than ready for it to be over. He finds the fans "quite strange" and the papz are the biggest issue, but what I found amazing was how he could speak so negatively about a franchise that gave him the opportunity to do movies like Remember Me and Water for Elephants. This franchise, that seems to be nothing but a daunting curse to Mr. Pattinson, has set the groundwork for the rest of his career.

Yes, the fans are intense, some really intense, but they are who keep you employed. If no one cared who he was, he would still be making small movies and wondering if he was going to have a job next month. So, I am torn as to whether we should feel compassion for him or feel resentment for his obvious lack of interest in what this entire fandom has given him.

So tell me what do you think? Do you think this interview was a kick in the face to the dedicated fans all over the world or do you feel compassion for his "situation?" Or do you think this was the interviewer's way of manipulating Rob's words and making it sound a lot worse than he actually meant it? Honestly, I do not really have an opinion at this point. I was shocked that he was so candid and forth right about his feelings. Although I will have to say kudos for throwing caution into the wind. Just keep in mind sweet Rob, if the fans don't love you...your movies don't sell and if your movies don't sell...you get where I am going :)

  1. Why do you finish the article with a threat? Rob does not owe Twilight Fans anything. His actions during the whole Twilight time has been to be sweet and generous to fans and to be himself. He is allowed to be sensitive and question where he is going.

I am a Twilight Fan and a Rob fan who doesn't expect him to be Edward 'perfect fantasy man' all the time. I hope those fans who feel entitled, do look for another actor to follow because I'm watching Robert Pattinson move forward as an artist.
    Jene. Aussie Rob fan.

  2. Honestly I feel for Rob, I can only imagine how nuts the fans are. At the same time he should probably keep his mouth shut about the 'franchise' that gave him a platform for a career launch.

  3. Also I would like to add I am an Edward fan as well as Rob fan.

  4. "We all know what these actors go through." Somehow, I doubt it. You know, there's different kinds of poverty. When I travelled in India I regularly saw people we would consider poor but with enormous, contented smiles... fundamentally happy. In the West we have money and lifestyle but there is a different kind of poverty, and I reckon Rob must be one of the poorest in that sense. Twilight has given him a prison made of gold. Golden bars made of screaming bullterrier fans who seem to be plugged into some kind of primal hyperdrive. I don't envy him at all. I hope he has someone he trusts who can take care of him while he rests, just as he did for Martin. I too am looking forward to some of those bars melting away, and watching him grow as an artist. He has an artist's soul... let's all back off and let him out!!!! We're like the Snow Queen in the Hans Christian Anderson tale, putting icicles in Kai's heart and wanting to steal him away all for ourselves - which is impossible anyway. I know he's extraordinarily adorable, but let's move on and leave him be! Give him some space! He doesn't belong to anyone but himself.

  6. it seems to me that Rob can only *trust* animals these days, that is why he got upset when Tai the elephants role was over.my heart goes out to him, he has an old mans head on his shoulders because he has had to grow up very quickly.so so sad. I wish the very best for him in his future.I also know that he is a very passionate guy and also very very wise.I wish everyone would back off from him too,for gods sake let the man breathe !!.

  7. First of all I would NEVER threaten Rob, who I think is freaking fabulous...I stated truth. This goes for all actors. If fans do not support them, they are out of a job...take it however you wish but that is the simple reality of every celebs life.

Secondly I recall stating in this article that I had no opinion on the interview at all, because frankly I don't. If I did not appreciate him so much as an artist, I would say this whole interview was crap. I was simply asking the thoughts of others, without picking a side of my own.

In some ways famous people have it a lot harder than regular people. Every word they say is scrutinized and examined. They don't have the advantage of being able to speak their minds as much. That's not my rule, that's society.

So in short, I am one of the biggest Rob fans (Twilight and non-Twilight) out there and I hate the way he is hounded and hunted down like wild game but sadly its just part of the job description. He is not the only star out there that has to deal with it...they all do.

Thanks for your opinions they are much appreciated! :)

  8. Ed's Bella I think "anonymous" is on her period!! Geez chill out chick with u prison of gold. I think Rob knows he would be nothing w/out his fans, I also think he'd like it alot better if he weren't the biggest thing on earth right now. But nothing lasts forever right. This too shall pass for him and he will go on with his movie career much in the way he is already. I think the "anonymous" (cuckoo) fans are the ones we should B afraid of, to go on a rant on a blog?? really come on chick or guy get it together!! and go "F"- off

  9. I like how the girl above thinks that "Anonymous" is all one person. SOMEONE doesn't know how the commenting works!

  10. I actually took the article with a grain a salt because every interview that I've actually seen and heard him in, he is always giggly and happy and very appreciative of the fandom. This article made him look like he was rocking back and forth in a closet all day. I'm skeptical :/

  11. Ha ha I totally agree...they made him out to be more of a mental patient than an actor. That was my final reasoning on the whole article...they manipulated his words and made him out to be some depressed hobo who hates the world, when in all honesty he probably didn't make that big of a deal about it. Thanks for the comment and for not hating me for posing a question :)

  12. Vanity Fair has a reputation of manipulating interviews.. I think Rob has a point. There are probably some really strange fans out there. Women or girls that think he IS Edward and want to marry Edward.. hate Bella etc.. Paparazzi is awful, yes, we all love the pictures but have you seen what they do to get the pictures? It's awful. If celebs wouldn't try to hide so much maybe they wouldn't be so targeted. ALSO.. a trick I think Rob and Kristen both use is wear the same clothes over and over again so paps can't sell the pics. I love that trick!

  13. I understand that the high school and middle school girls probably get out of control. To be honest if I saw one of them I'd probably lose my shit. But if I ever got the guts to go up to whoever I'd just be like, "excuse me. Can I tell you I appreciate what you've given me as a Twilight fan. And I cried at the end of Remember Me. But I just wanted to say 'Hi' and thank you." Or something like that. Don't be rude, I mean they are people too!

  14. I agree...I think people get so lost in the obsession that they just forget their manners. I try not to look at them as "crazy" per say but maybe just VERY PASSIONATE. I do not know how I would respond to being loved that much...it would be instense
