Here in this interview with MTV, Kristen Stewart pronounces that Bella Swan is the hero of the newest movie, New Moon. Because Bella gets to be the hero instead of the "manly" Edward Kristen likes New Moon a heck of a lot more. Thoughts? Is Bella really the hero or does she just appeal more because she is a hurt character? Or is Jacob more of the hero (isn't he a more likely choice than Bella?)?
Everyone knows that Jacob is the RIGHT PERSON to choose... but Edward is his own category. If Edward didn't exist.. if he had died years before like he was supposed to, Jacob and Bella would indeed be the soulmates that they still are and be in love and happy. However... it absolutely possible to have that indescribable soul mate/best friend relationship and be madly in love with someone else. Because Edward exists.. she knows what she is without and has no choice but to pick him and go with her heart. Ignorance would have been bliss in this situation. Bella is the hero... she has the guts to put aside her torn apart heart and the hole in her chest to save the man she loves even though she knows its going to be a painful reunion and ultimately she is going to have to be painfully ripped apart again when he leaves... if she can even save him. Jacob saves Bella from herself.. Bella saves Edward... no one ever saves Jacob. I always feel for him.

ReplyDeleteNow, I haven't read the book yet - though I intend to before I see the movie - but I'm sure she's specifically referring to the end where she DOES save Edward.
ReplyDeleteThat doesn't make her the hero of the movie, but those are the kinds of things that vary based on opinion.
Bella and Jake aren't soul mates. They are amazing friends! If they were soul mates, Jake would have imprinted on her, whether Edward existed or not. Jake lets her take chances, and take risks, and then tries to save her. Edward doesn't want her to take risks, he wants to keep her safe always. Jake always wants to be the hero, but Edward doesn't ever see that he truly is a hero. Bella is the hero in New Moon, because first of all, she saves Edward, but also because she saves herself by bringing Edward back. She preserves their true love.
ReplyDeleteShe's the hero in that she plays the strong lead role this time around, and saves Edward in the end. Jacob is Bella's hero, her own savior as she struggles to find ways to fill the massive hole torn through her by Edward's absence.
ReplyDeleteBella is a hero in New Moon... She saves the love of her life and risks her own to do so. She is always risking her life just to be with Edward! Jacob is always saving Bella b/c he is holding out for something that doesn't exist...yet!!!
