Update on 'Breaking Dawn' Salary Dispute - Co-Stars Want $4 Million Each

As you may have heard by now, salary disputes have caused a delay in the announcement of the second Breaking Dawn film. The disputes involve both Ashley Greene and Kellan Lutz with sources now telling EW.com that the actors are asking for $4 million a piece for each of the final two films.

Here is the complete story from EW.com:

It’s no surprise that salary negotiations would be the key stumbling block to splitting the fourth and final Twilight book, Breaking Dawn, into two movies. (The actors’ contracts cover only four movies. This would make it five.) But who could have guessed it would be the supporting actors, not the stars, who would go to the mat for more money. As first reported by The Hollywood Reporter, co-stars Ashley Greene and Kellan Lutz are taking a hard-line approach to negotiations, while Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner are close to signing their deals for both films. Director Bill Condon has already done so.

Greene and Lutz don’t have huge roles. Greene portrays Alice Cullen, the future-seeing sister of Edward Cullen and Bella’s closest friend in the Cullen clan. Lutz plays older brother Emmett Cullen and his part, so far, has been minor. Yet sources tell EW.com that the duo are asking for $4 million a piece for each of the final two films. Greene and Lutz had initially banded together with fellow co-stars Nikki Reed and Jackson Rathbone to form a united front, but sources say Reed backed down and is now close to finalizing her deal, which is said to be in the $750,000- $1 million range per film–the amount Summit initially offered the four cast members. (Rathbone’s status remains unclear, and his reps had not returned a call for comment at press time. Reed’s manager declined to comment.)

The studio declined to comment on the negotiations. But sources tell EW.com that Greene and Lutz believe that because the supporting actors do as much publicity as the lead actors, and have to log almost as many hours on set, they should be paid accordingly. One source involved in the negotiations says that Greene and Lutz just want to get $1 million or more.

Either way, what is peculiar is that Greene and Lutz are banding together at all. Greene’s Alice is a much more instrumental character than Lutz’s Emmett is. And considering that Summit has replaced actors before who played hardball (Rachelle LaFevre was dropped from the upcoming Eclipse in favor of Bryce Dallas Howard), it wouldn’t be a surprise if Summit chooses to replace either actor. It’s just fans will probably be much more outraged over Greene leaving than Lutz.

  1. Neither way we love em' both !!:( and it will be very sad for us if they leave. So they should take what they been offered. Why? because as they say they have to be on set the same length of time as rob, kristen, and taylor have to be. So if they agreed, why is it so hard to acceot to? o.O its fishy but if rob taylor and kristen are the lead and get certain amount ashley and kellan should stay with the accorded aount. Just Saying what I think.

  3. Of course they would band together. They are very good friends from long before Twilight even happened. Same way R, K, and T have banded together with money requirements. Since I don't know the in's and out's of what happens on a set and what is required of an actor I don't feel I am qualified to state whether an actor deserves X amount of $$ or not.

Hope they both stay. The movies wouldn't be the same without them.

  5. I think that they should be allowed to get 1 million but 4 million is crazy. I would be really sad to see either one of them replaced. They need to hurry up and get this over with..

  6. I'm sorry and don't get me wrong i love both the actors for what they've brought to the movies but there comes a point where these actors (all actors) should think about what their legacy role will be and then do anything to fulfill that role PAY BE DAMNED because honestly what has leo d really done since titanic one movie is ultimately his legacy these actors will have 5 consecutive movies blockbuster movies award winning movies they should proudly do them for a reasonable price and be proud that they were a part of such a phenomenon

  10. I bet Robert, Kristen and Taylor would all take a pay decrease to see breaking dawn 2 movies instead of 1 it would make it all worth while.

  13. if they really cared what their fans thought they would want it split into two regardless of what they were paid. come on honestly what did either of them have going on before the twilight movies.

  14. They are right in saying they are doing just as much work in promoting the films and for being onset and available as much as th rest of the cast, so I truly hope they stay on and give them a pay they deserve, that's what fans want!

  15. They are getting full of themseleves. Without Twilight these two wouldn't have a career and pretty much still don't. Summit should threaten to drop them. Then these two will see how "special" they really are. What selfish jerks.

But if either one did leave, I'd be pretty sad because Summit is bipolar when it comes to casting.

  16. "Leo D" may've gotten recognition from Titanic but he's been in SO MANY more roles since there. Girl (or boy), catch up with the times.

  17. i understand if they ask alot in Breaking Dawn because they are in their a whole lot and also its two movies. Supposedly Robert and Kristen are gotta get 7.5 million. Ashley and Kellan should get like 2 million. they have not gotten any raise for doing twilight so i think its pretty understandable with Breaking Dawn. Nikki Reed is getting 750,000-1 million. She been in all 3 films so far i think that is low. Summit doesn't have to give them 4 million but at least 2 million. Twilight is making so much money off of twilight movies, books, merchandise. They are putting in just as much work as Robert, Kristen, and Taylor. it's one thing that they replace Rachele in Eclipse. She dies in Eclipse, but to try to replace Kellan and Ashley is another thing. they are a major characters underneath Robert, Kristen and Taylor. i think there will be problems, and a lot of the Twilight fans who love those characters will be very mad
