Summit Sues Company To Stop Sale of Bella Jacket

A lawsuit has been filed by Summit Entertainment against clothing company BB Dakota for copyright and trademark infringement. The clothing company has advertised the jacket as the "JACKET SEEN IN TWILIGHT." The Hollywood Report says “Summit seeks an injunction against further sale of the item, all profits earned from the jacket, and — the horror! — it wants B.B. Dakota to ‘deliver to Summit for destruction all Bella Jackets.’”

The movie costume designer for Twilight, Wendy Chuck, shared with EW magazine where she bought the famous Bella jacket. ”I was planning to use the brown hoodie for that sequence, but the director of photography hated the fact that [Stewart's] hair and the jacket were both brown and felt she got lost in it,” she said. So she headed to the nearest Nordstrom Rack and quickly found a replacement. ”I literally brought that blue one on set just before they rolled cameras. Then Catherine said, ‘Wendy saved the day!’ That made me a hero.”

  1. Sue? Without anything on the jacket? Just look like what Bella wears?
I think any company can produce a jacket they have seen somewhere even in the film!

Well, if the reason is that "the jacket seen in Twilight" has been advertised for this jacket, it is such a disgusting tactic of law Summit is using.

Well, if I wear a Jacob's shorts without a shirt to make me look like him or if I have my hair cut the same as Jacob's style, will I get sued, huh? Or my barber get sued? Because he cut my hair, and he earns money.
For copying without authorisation, like copyright...

Bullsh*t story, disgusting Summit... cares too much about profits again. You are such a f****ng factory. Summit, you can stand today just because great producers work for you!

  3. I think the problem here is that BB Dakota is trying to make profits on an item by calling it something it's not. Whether Summit is concerned about making as much money as they can or not...they have the copyright and it is their right to do so. If you invented something and became a millionaire for doing so, would you be okay with whomever wanted to profit from your invention? That's why there are copyright laws. Now, whether or not this is a serious issue that should go as far as to file a suit is debateable. But...if they don't set a precedence now, how many others will attempt to profit from it?
