About Maria: She is described as a tiny, but extremely beautiful brunette with scarlet eyes and a musical voice. Using an idea pioneered by Benito, Maria sought to out useful humans to turn into vampires, to create a vampire army.

Early History: Jasper was a confederate soldier when Maria discovered him. This was during the time of The Southern Vampire wars. She soon discovered, to her delight, after turning Jasper that he was able to manipulate the emotions of those around him. She used this to her advantage when she deciding to do away with newborn vampires she considered less than useful. Jasper was asked to manipulate their feelings right before they were destroyed to avoid an uproar and retaliation. Jasper felt what they had between them was love, but Maria was just using him. Jasper finally escaped from Maria, realizing that she was just using him. He was saddened by what he had done to the newborn vampires he was asked to purge. It is unknown what became of Maria, but it is assumed she still lives.

About Them: She was born in Bogotá, Columbia in 1981, to a cattle farmer / vet father and a pathologist mother. Catalina actually studied advertising before becoming an actress. She took acting classes at a Bogotá Theater and was soon noticed by an anonymous supporter. Not long after, she moved to New York City to pursue an acting career. She is the first Columbian woman to be nominated for an Academy Award.

Personal Quote: I love that she was evil, I love that she had to do something evil. You know if I was going to be a vampire, I would rather be an evil vampire that does crazy stuff than a nice vampire. So yeah, she was so much fun though, she was great. (On playing Maria in Eclipse.)
